On April 18th, AYLUS members Bryan and Sarah visited Blake Nursing Home to engage with residents in the memory care unit through interactive and stimulating activities.
For this visit, our team borrowed a memory-based video game system from a local library. The game, designed at a children’s level, was especially well-suited for elderly residents in memory care, providing an accessible and enjoyable way to participate. Volunteers guided residents through the games, helping them learn how to play and encouraging active involvement.
In addition, another group of volunteers worked with several residents using memory card games. Through these hands-on activities, residents were able to engage in cognitive exercises while also enjoying social interaction.
Overall, the session combined entertainment with cognitive stimulation. It was rewarding to see residents actively participating, trying new activities, and benefiting from opportunities to strengthen their memory while having fun.
