On April 11,2026, 6 members from the AYLUS Roslyn branch volunteered at a residential house in Long Island from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm.
We first get well acquainted with all the residents there and introduce ourselves. Our first activity of the day was preparing lanterns with flower designs, decorating it to the residents liking.
Soon after, we would bake desserts for the residents, which was cake at that time. Everyone had a task assigned and contributed equally, one would help mix the ingredients; afterwards another would help mix it. Once the oven was done preheating we would then put it in, starting on games to pass the time.
One of the first games we did was bingo, the first to bingo wins and then the first person who finished the whole card wins afterwards. The residents had a lovely time and were very excited after winning. Then, we moved onto our next game which was uno. It was a very lively atmosphere and everyone was competitive in a fun way. To end it all off, we treated the residents to the dessert once it finished baking. Most of the residents didn’t have much difficulty just feeding themselves and enjoyed the dessert throughly.
The experience in general was delightful and a pleasure. Residents and volunteers had an enjoyable time. The occasion spurred interaction, establishing an open and encouraging setting for both residents and volunteers. We look forward to connect once again later on.
