On Saturday, March 21st, from 3:45-5:00, the AYLUS Great Neck Branch held an AAPI event at the Great Neck Main Library for the kids. The activities that were held was reading, clay-making, origami, crochet, and plate making. The event started with a read aloud, starting with Goldman reading Bee-Bim-Bop, following up with Rebecca reading Grandma’s Rooftop garden, and finally Amber reading Beautifully Me. When the read aloud is finished, we moved on by working on clay crafts and paper plate crafts. Amber made ladybugs and penguins with the children and Christina made a panda and a firetruck with Goldman together. Nathan aided the younger kids in making paper animals by sticking their features onto the paper. He made lions and penguins with the children. After the read aloud, Rebecca folded origami sharks with the participants. Victoria and Felicia worked on crocheting chains and other small patterns. Every kid had a lot of fun and art products today. Overall, the event was a fun and engaging experience for both the kids and the volunteers.
