On March 20th, three members of AYLUS and one parent participated in a Feed My Starving Children (FMSC) packing session. Feed My Starving Children is a non-profit organization that collects donations in order to send food to the less fortunate. The volunteering process was pretty straightforward and no preparations were needed. The session started off with a big group with many other volunteers. Then a staff member gave us some instructions before splitting us into smaller groups. We washed our hands and went over to the work stations. We split up roles, scoopers, weighers, sealers, etc, and started working. At the end of the session we cleaned up before heading back to the main room to review our results. We saw how many meals we were able to pack and how many lives we were going to affect. Overall this experience was really rewarding and shows how a little time out of your day can affect so many other lives.
Together with a total of 40 volunteers, we packed 23,112 meals that can feed 63 kids for a year. On average, four of us packed approximately 2,311 meals that can feed 6 kids for a year. We are very proud of what we achieved.
