Murrieta AYLUS Helps Local Food Bank (72nd) (2/17/2025)

Reported by Adora Xiao :

On February 17, 2025, AYLUS members helped at a local food bank.
The volunteers first helped with putting away various crates and cleaning out some tables to clear workspaces. Soon after, the first shipment of food arrived, and the volunteers unloaded the truck onto various carts sorted by the types of food, before weighing and setting them aside. Taking some bread out of the storage, they laid them out on the racks for distribution sorted from dessert pastries to rolls and flatbreads, then moved on to the vegetable section. They sorted through various onions, oranges, grapes, apples, and lettuce and checked for rotting produce that was too degraded to eat, before pausing their work to greet another van. They repeated the process again with the new delivery, then went outside and broke down the cardboard boxes that had delivered the food in. Taking a short break, they greeted another shipment and went to work sorting out some avocados and remaining lettuce bags, then put away all of the breads and dry goods. To close out the day they bagged the meat that had arrived in plastic bags to ready for distribution, then helped clean up and sweep.
