On September 2, 2024, that marked the 119th event of the AYLUS Oakland Gardens Branch. The AYLUS Oakland Gardens Branch partners with Books for Taiwan to donate and create a library for kids in Taiwan.
Books for Taiwan is a non-profit volunteer group in New Jersey, USA. They have a history of more than 12 years. Through fundraising and the help of volunteers, Books for Taiwan collects school bags and books. They collect second-hand children’s books in English from the community and ship them back to Taiwan by sea. These books would be distributed to the community, such as rural schools and prisons. They have collected and donated a total of 1.2 million books. They take the initiative to give back to their hometown in Taiwan to provide supplementary teaching materials to familiarize children with English.
Our members worked together to bring a collection of books that ranges from PreK to 3rd grade reading level. As many members had books lying around in their house, they collected those books to donate as they wished to help provide supplementary teaching materials to help children with learning English. Then, our members would sort the books as we don’t want to donate any really used books that are damaged in any way.
