Oakland Gardens Watering Community Gardens (08/21/2024)

On August 21th, 2024, members of AYLUS (Alliance of Youth Leaders in the United States) Oakland Gardens Branch had a gardening event at PS 390. This is the 112th  event so far held by AYLUS Oakland Gardens Branch. It took place from 5:00 PM to 6:30 PM.
There were mostly no more weeds left, as we had already gotten rid of them in the weeks prior, so we could immediately start watering the plants. Most/all the plants were healthy and growing, and most of them already started to bear fruits/vegetables that people could enjoy. However, there were lots of bugs such as lantern flies and mosquitoes that could be a potential threat to the plants.
People in the community were allowed to come and pick the food themselves, so we were helping our community stay healthy.  The plants that grew the fastest were the tomatoes. All of the tomato plants were already full of red, ripe tomatoes!
Thank you to all our members who helped out in this event! We really appreciate your support and dedication to our community.
