Aylus Great Neck Branch Volunteer at Planting Fields Arboretum State Park on 8/17/24

On Saturday, August 17, 2024, Aylus volunteers worked at the Planting Fields Arboretum State Park from 9:30 AM to 12:00 PM. Our job was to eliminate all the invasive plants, specifically the English Ivy, and protect the environment. We have been clearing the area for the past few weeks and we are finishing this area before moving on to another section of the Park.

The volunteers were divided into two groups in the beginning. One group was assigned the job of planting trees and the other group was assigned removing the English Ivy that were left in that area. The first group that was planting trees was planting Camellias. Camellias can be used as tea leaves or for decoration. The few Camellias that were planted at the park were for decoration as they produce beautiful flowers.

The other group was responsible for clearly, the English Ivy continued their hard work clearing more and more areas. They all used removed the invasive plant manually as using pesticides would harm the environment. So each of us wearing our gloves pulled out the English Ivy and loaded them off in a truck to be eliminated. By doing so, the Aylus group continues to help and protect the environment by getting rid of all the invasive species and protecting the park.
