Murrieta AYLUS Helps Local Senior Center (75th) ( 8/6 & 8/8/2024)

Reported by Caien(Daisy) Chen :

On August 6th 2024, AYLUS members volunteered at their local elderly center. To start off, they engaged in pool noodle exercises that aimed to exercise the whole body even while sitting down. The members took charge of the group and all the residents followed their lead. After everyone was severely exhausted from the workout, members passed out Oreo cookies and fig bars for snack. Residents who couldn’t swallow down hard cookies got applesauce instead. After the cookies, the members were led outside to enjoy the nice summer day and juice was passed around. Members were taken for walks around the garden before it was time for Lunch and they were all led back inside.

On August 8th 2024, AYLUS members volunteered at the elderly center. Firstly, they all did chair yoga in their seats. Then, banana bowls were passed around as snack. Today, they had the option of either cranberry or orange juice but many of the residents still chose to drink water. Then, the members learned Mudras, a symbolic ritual performed in many religions. The process simulated the flow of life energy throughout the body through moving the fingers. They learned three mudras: One for concentration, one for stimulated clarity, and one for the body. Lastly, they went around in a circle to share one happy memory. Some members shared memories of skating, traveling with family, and more. Finally, it was time for Lunch so all members were transported to the lunch room.
