Slam n Splash (#130): Pearland Branch Community Swimming Class (#68) – 7/4/2024

On Thursday, July 4th, three competitive swimmers and volunteers from AYLUS Pearland  – Yurong, Yushan, and Jordana taught swimming lessons to community kids. This is the 7th lesson in a 9-week-long series.

Yurong, Jordana, and Yushan worked together to help with Darren, Andy, and Berry’s butterfly arms. We also helped them learn to breathe more instead of holding their breath the whole time. When Andy, Berry, and Darren got used to the arm movement, Yurong helped them work on their kick, while Jordana and Yushan helped correct places they needed to fix. Darren, Andy, and Berry raced each other to the other side of the pool, and Andy swam to the 4ft mark, while Darren and Berry made it to the 6ft mark. At the end of the class, Berry and Darren raced coaches, Jordana and Yurong. Yurong and Jordana gave Berry and Darren a 15-second head start while they swam freestyle and the coaches swam butterfly.

This lesson was very efficient, and all the swimmers were getting comfortable with each other and the coaches. They were able to ask questions when they needed help. Two students learned to swim to the other side of the pool. Then during the race they used the new technique they had learned and it improved their swimming a lot.
