City and Neighbor Support: Pearland Branch Community Chess Class on June 29, 2024

On Saturday, June 29, 2024, Marc Lu and Jordan Zheng started to continually open summer chess classes at the AYLUS Pearland branch. They brought new teachers Joshua Meng, Brendon Jiang, and Alicia Zhang to help teach new students. They are avid chess enthusiasts and were all excited to teach this new set of lessons.

The students were split into two groups: the intermediate and beginners. Marc Lu, Jorden Zheng, and Alicia Zhang taught the beginners, teaching them the basics of chess such as board set-up, piece movements, and basic chess tactics while Joshua and Brendon Jiang taught more advanced techniques, such as basic endgame techniques and openings. Towards the end, the instructors realized that the students did not receive a break and dismissed the students ten minutes early.
Overall, the class was a success, and the students enjoyed their first class of chess lessons.
