San Diego Branch hosted the Toy Drive for Kids with cancer and blood disorders in Rady Children’s Hospital

Report by Andrew Zhou

In San Diego, Rady Children’s Hospital is the largest children’s hospital and has a special clinic for children with cancer and blood disorders. These kids often need to visit the hospital monthly, bi-weekly, weekly, or even daily for check-ups and treatment, which can be very challenging and is definitely worse than just getting a shot. After each treatment, the children can choose a toy from a treasure box, which helps encourage and comfort them.

After the holiday season, the number and variety of toys in the treasure box decrease. Through our toy drive, we aim to donate a wide variety of toys to ensure every child can find something they love.

By May 22, 2024, we collected a total of 38 brand new toys from our toy drive and a table tennis fundraising event, bringing smiles to 38 kids. On May 23, 2024, four AYLUS members delivered the toys to Rady. The staff were very appreciative and said the children would be excited and grateful to see so many new toys in the treasure box.
