On April 2nd, 2024, Murrieta AYLUS members lended a hand to the Community Mission of Hope food bank.
They began with sorting through boxes of produce, watching for rot and mold and tossing the vegetables that had gone bad into a bag, which would then be taken to local farms for pigs. The good produce was sorted onto a rack with trays for different vegetables and fruits. After sorting through an assortment of produce, the volunteers began setting up boxes. They placed different fruits and vegetables into each box, completing them with an assortment of breads and desserts. After making boxes, the volunteers began transporting meats. The meats were taken from the main freezer and placed onto the table or moved into a meat specialized freezer. After, the volunteers returned to sort through more produce. Bags of potatoes were sorted through and examined for rot, before being placed out onto the trays. After the potatoes, the volunteers began handing out boxes to food insecure people. They delivered boxes, bags, and flowers to their cars, and when the influx of cars slowed down the volunteers began cleaning up. They mopped and swept the area, before bidding goodbye.
