Today we helped with the Agape special needs program at DCFC. As many of us were
volunteering here for the first-time, we dedicated half an hour to introductions, familiarizing
ourselves with team members, reviewing rules, and undergoing basic training before the
children arrived. This also meant we spent most of the time at the beginning learning about the
kids. It was really fun to see how these kids acted and learn all their different personalities and
needs.
We first started with some bible studies and songs, the kids sung and danced along to.
Afterwards the kids had a snack before going off to social lessons, where they learned about
personal space. It was really exciting to see them practice what they had learned in the lesson
afterwards during the role playing. Lastly they ended their morning off with some card games.
Before we left we helped set up for lunch. This included things like taking out and setting up the
tables and chairs. Overall this was a really new, but fun experience. They showed us a new perspective on special needs kids and we hope to come back soon.
