In a commendable effort to revitalize local green spaces, the Upper Manhattan Branch organized a park cleanup event at Catharine Turner Richardson Park on January 27, 2024. Spearheaded by community members Mark Li and Richard Xu, the initiative focused on addressing the aftermath of seasonal festivities and natural debris accumulation.
The primary task for the volunteers was the removal of leftover pumpkins. These pumpkins, left to decompose, posed both aesthetic and environmental concerns. The team diligently collected and disposed of these gourds, restoring the park’s natural beauty.
In addition to the pumpkins, the volunteers tackled the issue of scattered food waste throughout the park grounds. This type of litter not only detracts from the park’s appearance but can also attract unwanted wildlife and contribute to health hazards. The cleanup crew meticulously gathered and removed all traces of food waste, ensuring a safer and cleaner environment for park visitors.
The event also involved the collection of fallen tree branches. These branches, likely results of recent storms or natural shedding, were carefully removed to prevent potential hazards for park-goers and to maintain the park’s manicured appearance.
Overall, the event was a testament to the community’s commitment to environmental stewardship and civic responsibility.
