Oakland Gardens Starts a Book Drive (1/1/2024)

On January 1st 2024, to start the 2024 project of the Oakland Gardens Branch, members went to a local CVS Pharmacy to set up a donation box for a book drive. Our goal for 2024 is to prepare a library for children who live in higher poverty areas in Africa. We need to raise 1,000 books, which can be either literature or educational books, as well as $500 so that this library can be built in Africa. We need to prepare libraries for African children because it will allow us to share love and support with them. Books can be great gifts that will help a child in Africa gain more knowledge and education.

We made posters to put on boxes to spread more awareness about the book drive. The posters were made with vibrant markers as it will make the posters stand out. What’s more, if the posters are more colorful, it will leave a stronger impact in people’s minds. More people will remember the posters and bring some books to donate, helping our cause.

Amy Algo, the manager of our local CVS Pharmacy kindly allowed us to put a book donation box inside of her store in a highly noticeable place. She was the first person to help us start the book drive. We’d like to thank Mrs. Algo for supporting us in this event. She was very kind and mentioned to us that she would ask her children to donate some books to help out.
