12/03/23 AYLUS Dix Hills Branch assists teacher at LISOC to create a better learning environment for students
At Long Island Chinese School on December 3, AYLUS volunteers actively engaged with students, grading their classwork, and aiding in the preparation of educational materials, greatly assisting teachers. Volunteers aimed to support the school’s educational objectives and contribute positively to the learning environment.
One of the key roles was to engage with students actively. Volunteers accomplished this by fostering interactive learning experiences, initiating group discussions, and organizing educational activities relevant to the curriculum. This was done by encouraging students to actively participate, ask questions, and express their thoughts in Mandarin, thus enhancing their language skills and confidence.
Another important part of our duties involved grading students’ classwork. This process not only helped in assessing the students’ progress but also provided valuable feedback to both students and teachers. This helped teachers focus more on teaching without having to focus attention on grading.
Preparation of educational materials played a crucial role in facilitating effective teaching. We assisted in organizing and preparing materials needed for lessons, such as worksheets, erasers, and classwork. This preparation ensured that teachers had the necessary tools readily available to conduct engaging and informative classes.
Volunteers also engaged in cultural classes such as participating as judges for a poetry contest. Volunteers split up into a variety of classes to once again help teachers.
