Greater Memphis Branch, Alan Cheng and Evan Wu organized several fundraising yard sales and lemonade sales to raise money for TN Mental health. More and more crimes were afflicted with mental health issues. They could be prevented if these individuals were to receive treatment and assistance at an early stage. Alan and Evan decided to help a local program (TN Mental Health Regional Intervention Program) that provides services for citizens who suffer from mental health problems. It’s a positive parenting program for families with children ages 2-6 (must be enrolled before their 6th birthday) that are displaying any type of behavior concern. The child does not need to have a diagnosis and the program is of no cost to our enrolled families. Parents attend program WITH their child for two hours twice a week. During program, parents work with their case manager to learn strategies to help shape their child’s behavior. The children are in a preschool like setting, intentionally working on things like social skills and table manners. While there is no cost for the program, it is time intensive. Changing behavior takes time and parents can plan to spend between four to eight months in program. The program is grant funded through the TN Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services and is licensed at the University of Memphis.
