AYLUS Bellaire alleviated food insecurity with the Houston Food Bank on November 26, 2023

AYLUS Bellaire Branch made a great impact on their community on the Sunday following Thanksgiving break. Speaking of giving thanks, the AYLUS Bellaire branch showed their gratitude and support for their community by volunteering at the Houston Food Bank on November 26, 2023.

The Houston Food Bank is America’s largest food bank. The food bank distributes fresh produce, non-perishable goods, and meals to those in need in the Houston area. AYLUS members boxed and sorted packaged goods by categories. From 9 AM to 12 PM, volunteers sorted goods and organized them into 20-pound packages. This involved not only ensuring the quality and organization of non-perishable items but also responsibly disposing of expired goods. Volunteers prepared 18 pallets of food that weighed 14,000 lbs, equivalent to 12,000 meals. By actively participating in this initiative, members not only supported the Houston Food Bank’s mission but also strengthened the sense of community and unity within the Houston area by contributing to the cause of alleviating food insecurity.

The following members volunteered (3 hours): Alexander Tang, Victoria Wang, Zijian Wang, Yuruo Shen, Megan Wang, Daniel Wu, Jason Chen, Raymond Han, Isabel Li, Shreyas Sinha.
