Murrieta AYLUS Helps Local Senior Center ( 34th) ( 11/12/2023)

Reported by Adora Xiao :

On Sunday, November 12, Murrieta AYLUS members lended a hand to local senior centers.
At Torrey Pines Senior Living: The residents began with some light stretching and exercises, before they were moved outside as the weather was extraordinarily warm. The drinks and snacks were taken outside to be prepared there. The volunteers poured orange juice and water, thickening what was needed, and helped assist residents that couldn’t drink on their own. After hydrating the residents were given crackers and cheese as a light snack, and some were taken on small walks. Musicians arrived to give a performance, and afterwards some residents walked around the courtyard again before all were taken to each lunch.

Members enjoyed getting to know the seniors while serving them. In the library, members were playing some jazz pieces that most seniors knew and sang along to. They played jazz for the first half and for the second half, members played classical, like Beethoven and Clementi.
