On November 5, the AYLUS Roslyn Branch participated in One Warm Coat’s Winter Coat Drive.
One Warm Coat is a dedicated organization whose mission is to provide free coats to children and adults in need. They held coat drives and distributed the donated coats to people in impoverished conditions. In doing so, they also promoted environmental sustainability.
The Roslyn Branch actively partook in this event by gathering clothes. Members went through closets, drawers, and storage containers in search of old coats in excellent condition. Not only did the search take place within members’ homes, but we also encompassed the community as well by collecting clothes from relatives, friends, and neighbors. In total, we collected over fifty coats- a great achievement although we will strive to triumph past that record next time. Afterward, we packaged and labeled the bags, tacking AYLUS labels on them. The clothes were delivered to the J Crew drop-off location.
Through participating in this event, the members of the AYLUS Roslyn branch learned a valuable lesson in how such a trivial action from us can improve the life of someone out there. In the future, the Roslyn Branch hopes to continue bringing warmth to people, one coat at a time.
