Frisco & Plano Branch Organized and Packaged Books for Libraries With Love on October 28th, 2023

Reported by Brandi Wu

Our African Library partner in Uganda is the Rukiga District Community Library. We are the only book drive(UG5-64) that matched with them and they are thrilled that we are helping them! We are committed to providing books for a community library in a district where there isn’t a library. Recently, on October 28th, a few AYLUS volunteers grouped together in a garage to organize and pack books to give to a library in South Africa. We rushed to meet the mailing deadline before November 15th for the Uganda Container, making sure each box of books fit the guidelines(box size, weight, grade category, etc.)

The volunteers planned to finish their end goal of packing 1100 general use preschool-8th grade reading level books in boxes by the end of this week. The volunteers rushed to finish the end goal before the deadline. Despite the anxiety the pushed through and did a very well job on the books by organizing them, packing the neatly, weighing them correctly, and writing each and every number on the box to make sure that it was okay for shipping. The volunteers were also supported by two individuals in the book packing process. At the end of the job the volunteers managed pack 16 boxes and plan to do the rest at another event.
