Columbus Branch Donated Record 140 Placemats to Meals on Wheels on August 10, 2023
Throughout the summer, AYLUS Columbus volunteers created an impressive 140 placemats for the City of Dublin’s Meals on Wheels program — the most placemats ever made in a single round, breaking last year’s record of 118. The mats were delivered to the Dublin Service Center on August 10 to be distributed to Meals on Wheels recipients around the community.
Meals on Wheels deliveries help those who are 60 years of age or older and otherwise unable to receive in-person meals. This program has become of even greater importance since the COVID-19 pandemic, as older residents, especially those who are further immunocompromised, have higher risks of both infection and severity.
Volunteers incorporated summer themes into their placemats during this round. Due to camps, vacations, and other commitments, the time for this round of placemats was extended and the placemat limit per volunteer was raised from four to eight. Volunteers did an incredible job with their mats despite committing to much larger amounts than usual.
Since this initiative started in 2021, AYLUS Columbus has now donated over 600 placemats to the city’s Meals on Wheels program.
