AYLUS Syosset Aids in Planting Native Species at LINPI Greenhouse, 9/16/23

On 9/16/203, members of AYLUS Syosset Branch volunteered at LINPI (Long Island Native Plants Initiative) greenhouse in Brentwood. LINPI associate Pam gave the members a tour of the native plants inside LINPI.  Members began trimming dying leaves from the Hollow Joe-pye Weed and removed dead Hollow Joe-pye Weed from each tray. Members also placed SOSE plant pots in empty spaces on each tray. At the transplanting area, members filled in empty pots with new soil and repotted buttonbush plants into bigger pots. Some members wrote down the name of plants on the plant labels with markers, and other members attached printed stickers on the labels. All labels were later placed near the plants for plant identification. LINPI associate instructed members to harvest seeds from plants by stripping the seeds from the flower heads. After all assigned tasks were completed, members watered all plants to keep the plant healthy.
