Julia worked 3 hour volunteer shifts each day on Tuesday and Thursday at the Southwest OKC Pioneer Library. In addition to helping with basic library functions, she also assisted with summer learning programs to prevent summer slide in kids. She helped with creating book displays, gathering books to be delivered to customers or other libraries (a pull list), and coloring and drawing a poster design. Additionally, She aided in the library’s “Kickstart Kindergarten” program by demonstrating the songs along with the instructor and passing out materials. This helped the kids prepare for kindergarten by learning their shapes and how to tie their shoes.
Julia additionally worked 3 hour volunteer shifts each day on Wednesday and Friday at the Southern Oaks Metropolitan Library. She cut out cardboard to create the materials for a summer journal program. She also worked at a desk to facilitate the summer reading program by logging the reading hours of library customers and distributing rewards. This also promoted summer learning and prevented summer slide.
