Frisco & Plano branch continued to collect and sort books for Libraries With Love project on June 15th, 2023

Reported by Jenny Wang

During the summer break we continued to carefully sort the books we collected and stored in our garages on June 15th 2023.  We moved seven boxes of books from another member’s home to our garage in order to sort the books together.  We unloaded the seven boxes of the books from the truck and started the sorting process.  There was a cell phone app called “Quickscan book leveler” to scan the books’ ISBNs to view the guided reading grade level equivalent. We downloaded and tried the app, however, many books scanned and returned the results of “unknown”. This created some difficulties for us.  We had to skim through each book to estimate the reading grade level.  There were cooking books, medical school books and religion books which were not qualified to ship to Africa. Another member also worked diligently to sort the books in her garage and accomplished her goal of sorting 200 books.  Very impressive. Sometimes if we still couldn’t decide the reading grade level we searched online and found the exact reading grade level. By working together as a team we are one step closer to achieving our goals.
