East Pittsburgh Branch Volunteers at local Food Bank (6/5/2023)

On June 5th, the East Pittsburgh Aylus group had the opportunity to engage in a meaningful community service activity by volunteering at the Westmoreland County Food Bank. During our volunteering session, we focused on two primary tasks: preparing and packing corn, as well as packing bread items. Our first task was preparing and packing corn. The process for the corn was breaking off the end of the corn and removing the outer leaf layer making it easier, and more hygienic to cook and pack. Our second task was packing bread items. There were a variety of different bread items, including loaves, rolls, donuts, baguets, cupcakes, cookies, and bagels. Our task involved packing the bread items into boxes ensuring each box had a variety of bread items and were ready to be distributed. Volunteering at the local food bank was an immensely rewarding experience for our group. Our involvement in preparing and packing corn and bread items helped address the immediate needs of individuals facing food insecurity. This really shows the importance of community engagement and the power of collective effort in making a positive impact.
