On Sunday, May 28th, members of the Roslyn AYLUS branch volunteered at the Jones Beach air show from 9:00-3:00 to assist the endangered species stewards.

During Memorial Day weekend, Jones Beach was heavily packed and many visitors crowded to watch the air show throughout the day. AYLUS volunteers worked to maintain a clean and safe environment for the endangered species in the area, especially piping plovers. To preserve boundaries between humans and endangered species, volunteers made sure visitors kept a safe distance from reserved areas. In order to prevent intrusion into the fenced area for endangered species, we helped make sure that toys, beachballs, and frisbees were not being thrown in close proximity to the fence. Furthermore, volunteers helped clean and reduce litter on the beach. This not only helped to decrease pollution but also minimized the risks of animals such as turtles or birds ingesting it for food and getting sick. Overall, volunteers helped minimize human contact with wild animals, maintaining safety for both the visitors and the endangered species in the area.

Participants:
Olivia Yang (6 hours), Christopher Zhu (6 hours), Brooke Zheng (6 hours). and Mingyao Xu (6 hours).
