San Fernando Valley Hosts Book Drive with Welby Way Elementary School and Ships to Books for Africa in March 2023

“AYLUS San Fernando Valley Hosts Book Drive with Welby Way Elementary School and Ships to Books for Africa”

Throughout late February and early March, the AYLUS San Fernando Valley branch has been working with Welby Way Elementary School and Books for Africa to ship books to less fortunate families in Africa.

On February 23rd, members Jason Xie and Benjamin Kozikaro-Sanchez decorated several boxes for students to drop their books off.

In the week of 2/20 – 2/24, Welby Way put out these boxes for students to drop off books – we got almost 250 in total!

On March 19th, from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m., members of the branch Jason Xie, Benjamin Kozikaro-Sanchez, Aaron Hekmatjah, Oren Hekmatjah, Tobi Kumapayi, and David Wan met in Sumac Park to sort the books. Books that did not meet the criteria (provided by BFA) were separated and will be donated to another book donation center soon. Overall, we sorted out around 50 books.

Finally, on March 23rd, Jason Xie took the books to a local post office and shipped approximately 250 books to the Books for Africa warehouse in Georgia.

Thank you so much to both the staff and students of Welby Way Elementary for working with us, and to Books for Africa for providing this avenue of impact!
