Raritan Valley Volunteers at the Chelsea in East Brunswick Senior Living Center on March 12, 2023

On March 12, 2023, starting at 2 PM, the volunteers of AYLUS Raritan Valley made a return to the Chelsea Senior Living Center. The goal was to help the senior residents create fun crafts known as sun catchers, to be placed in their rooms or given to family members.

We sat down with them at a long table, getting straight to work. All of us, including the residents, were given little colorful pieces of scarves, to be cut up into circles. Then, we would lace it through a metal and wooden circle, and lock it down with a clasp. After that we would use yarn and tie it through the loop, which could then be hung up near a window to catch sunlight.

The participants had so much fun working with the residents, helping them cut cloth and bringing them materials. In turn, the residents shared a little of their own wisdom, and even taught some volunteers how to do it themselves! We would love to come back soon!
