On January 21, 2023, AYLUS Bellaire Volunteers went to ED White Elementary school to tutor the students from 3rd -5th grade.
ED White Elementary is located in a multicultural neighborhood. They have a long-term program that helps students from disadvantaged families with Math or Reading. AYLUS volunteers were assigned to different students and helped them with math and/or reading. The Volunteers taught them how to find a faster way to solve math problems and remember words. The students improved their skills by practicing solving problems and reviewing their mistakes for math and playing word games to improve their reading skills The volunteers also taught the children how to play games like chess and checkers. The volunteers were there from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm.
The volunteers that went are (4 hours including 1-hour commute): Hannah Hsu, Katherine Guo, Jason Chen
