The Houston Food Bank is America’s largest food bank in distribution leading hunger relief in 18 southeast Texas counties. They distribute fresh produce, meat and nonperishables and prepare nutritious hot meals for kids in our state. Today’s main event is the Backpack Buddy program, providing nutritious, child-friendly food for school children to take home over the weekend or holiday break.
From 1 PM to 4 PM, volunteers worked on packing cans and bags of food such as pasta, juice, rice, tuna, crackers and more into bags. At the end, they cleaned the working area. Afterwards, the volunteers helped other groups to sort donated items into categories such as canned goods, dry food, inedible, and more.
