Murrieta AYLUS Helps Set Up Susan G. Komen ‘More Than Pink Walk’ Event #1 (10/09/22)

Reported by Jessica Lu

On October 9th, 2022, members Hsin-Chen (Julie) Lu, Trisha Leungsikul, KaiXi (Cathy) Liu, and Jessica Lu woke up early in the morning to go help set up the Susan G. Komen ‘More Than Pink Walk’ event in Murrieta’s Town Square Park.

This event’s purpose was to help raise money to support Inland Empire breast cancer patients. The goal was to raise $226,000 this year to be able to provide critically needed services like financial assistance. The event opened at 7 A.M. Members were assigned the job of serving refreshments from the beginning and the end point of the walk. When members arrived, 2 pallets of water and 1 pallet of bananas were seated at the assigned location. Members began to unpack them and put the water and bananas onto the tables for people easy access to grab them. Members waited patiently for the people to finish their walk. Slowly, 2 people finished, then 5, then 15, then crowds of people started to finish and made their way to the refreshment tables. Members became so focused on distributing water and bananas that when they finished, they discovered that they almost finished passing out almost all the bananas and more than 5 packs of water!

At the end of the event, members collected all the empty water bottles they found for their animal shelter fund-raiser!
