AYLUS Birmingham Branch Trains to Work the World Games (July 13, 2022)

The 2022 World Games will be held in Birmingham, AL, and AYLUS has coordinated with the World Games (TWG) as a Youth Volunteering Group. They will help at the Games themselves, as well as with set-up and break-down events.

On July 13, AYLUS Birmingham members arrived at the Birmingham Crossplex to attend training for the Wheelchair Rugby events. They directed athletes onto the track for pre-event preparation. Afterwards, volunteers were redirected to the BJCC East Exhibition Hall, where they helped out with the newly established Esports venue.

Volunteering at the esports section consisted of cheering people on while they played the sport. For baseball/softball, volunteers encouraged people while they were up at the plate and then helped clean up by picking up the balls they hit. For archery, volunteers would show participants how to shoot the bow and arrows and also help teach some technical skills.
