Phoenix AYLUS Transcribes Historical Documents in October 2021

Phoenix AYLUS continues to transcribe historical documents as a part of the Archivist Club founded in July 2020. This month, volunteers transcribed 12 documents.

Wenting Chen completed 6 documents in total: Volume 176, April 1 – April 9, 1939 pg2, pg3, pg4, pg5, and pg6. 

“I did PASTIME, Volume 1 pg.110. I learned that it was best to go in person to schedule political business.”

“I did Volume 176, April 1 – April 9, 1939 pg2 . I learned that this is a book with reports of some states.”

“I did Volume 176, April 1 – April 9, 1939 pg.3. I learned that Yunnan had some financial shipments that were reported by the American Consul.”

“I did Volume 176, April 1 – April 9, 1939 pg.4. I learned what munitions are.”

“I did Volume 176, April 1 – April 9, 1939 pg.5. I learned that this glossary was made by the government.”

“I did Volume 176, April 1 – April 9, 1939 pg.6. I learned that the State Department needed help from the Treasury with money problems.”

 

Jiyu Wang completed 3 documents: AEDEPOT, Volume 1 pg37, pg38, and pg 39. 

“I transcribed AEDEPOT, Volume 1 pages 37, 38, 39. The transcription process took about 1hr 30min.
Page 37 illustrates the objectives and changes made in the AEDEPOT project. Two objectives were listed, meeting the requirements for trained personnels, and selecting and recruiting agents. Some changes made in the program included the number of different officials in the program. Page 38 talked about the effectiveness of the project and how they tested the effectiveness: they sent the agents of the program to train JMATE trainees. There was also an ethnic breakdown shown of assets in the AEDEPOT project. Page 39 mentioned the different departments they had communication with, and specifically stated that there were no problems or liaison with other governments, intelligence, etc. in this page. Future plans to strengthen the project and spendings were also included in this page.”
Yongfen Chen completed 3 documents: Stein, William H. (2nd LT.) (1), Stein, William H. (2nd LT.) (2), and Hauser, Ralph E (T/SGT.). 
“I did  Houser, Ralph E (T/SGT.) I learned that people made hideouts in undergrowths.”
“I did  Stein, William H. (2nd LT.) (pdf 13 pages) I learned that people who are evading or escaping Germany were being reported.”
“I did  Stein, William H. (2nd LT.). I learned people were being evacuated in 1944. “
