AYLUS Puget Sound Completion of 2021 Writing Series

From preparation starting in early August to class from August 23, 2021 to August 26, 2021, members of the AYLUS Puget Sound organized and taught the 2021 Writing Series Course!

This course was taught by Kelly Cai and Sarah Xuan, and was prepared collaboratively by Kelly Cai, Sarah Xuan, and Sophie Xuan. Prior to the week of class, these two instructors and Sophie as staff prepared extensive slides with lessons that contained key concepts and examples. In addition to several hours of self preparation, the two instructors also held several meetings to discuss the specifics of teaching class.

The course structured aimed to guide students through project type essay process from research to outlining to writing to editing/revising. From the 2020 Writing Series, we spent several hours to improve content depth as well as plan and discuss the content organization to increase clarity and quality of content. We covered topics such as prompts, research and sources, outlining, essay structures, thesis statements, evidence, analysis, transitions, intros and outros, revising and editing, as well as some ad-hoc topics such as writing emails. We supplemented topics with several examples, tips, and our own stories/experiences as well!

We had approximately 50 students coming to class steadily, and many more that requested for our class recordings! Thanks everyone for the support given to our classes: our Writing Series would not exist without the support and participation of our students.

Hours Total:
