The AYLUS Manhasset branch organized the second online English study for middle school students. For the lesson, tutors asked at the end of the last lesson what students wanted to review. In this lesson we went over an online book, concerning shellfish, crabs, lobsters, and ocean life. The students read the book(s) in English and tutors helped students pronounce words correctly. The goal of the activity was to help their pronunciation…but also their confidence when speaking English. We also tried our best to explain/translate what the book had to offer in terms of information. The video meeting ended at around 9 pm. After, our parents went over the meetings and asked what we did and what we could improve upon.
It was an interesting experience because, during the pandemic, we still had ways to help our community virtually and to give kids a chance to experience the world around them without exposing themselves to the sanitized world we find ourselves in.
We look forwards to the next event and serving our community!
