Greater Princeton AYLUS Environment Committee Cleans Up Abbott Marshlands on March 27th, 2021

On March 27th, the Environment Committee of Greater Princeton branch of AYLUS (GPA) helped clean up the Abbott Marshlands near Trenton, New Jersey, which is another step of its long-term conservation efforts.

World Water Day, 22 March 2021, is about what water means to people, its true value and how we can better protect this vital resource. GPA encourages its members to join many adult volunteers on Saturday, March 27th, for a Spring Clean-Up in Roebling Memorial Park in the Abbott Marshlands. Meet in the morning at the Spring Lake Parking Area/Roebling Memorial Park, 500 Sewell Ave., Hamilton, NJ 08610.

The Abbott Marshlands are a unique freshwater tidal marshlands system which is unfortunately often a recipient of trash – both from the tides that bring in debris from the River and inland trash from the streets and storm drains. So come out to help make our community healthier, ecosystem stronger and our water cleaner!

Because of COVID-19, we required masks and staggered start times to accommodate social distancing.

GPA Participants (3 hrs for all): Kyson F. Zhou, Daniel Zhang, Amy Chua, Maximus Chua, Fiona Fan, Gina Shen, and Samuel Xiangcheng Ying.

Dear Friends.

I would like to thank you for your wonderful work on Saturday as part of our Abbott Marshlands Spring Cleanup. We were able to collect 50 bags of trash from the Marsh along with some miscellaneous tires and even a propane tank. I would also like to thank Megan Schupsky, our local NJ Watershed Ambassador for her work in organizing the event and the Mercer County Park Commission for their support. It was a beautiful day to be out in the Marshlands and we hope you will all return again to stroll on the trails, sit by the water, or participate in one of our programs.
If you would like to learn more about the Abbott Marshlands, or receive our monthly emails about programs and events please sign up on our website at abbottmarshlands.org.
Thanks again for all of your efforts on behalf the Marshlands and all of its life forms!
