Greater Princeton AYLUS Sports Committee Continues Chess Class for Kids (29th) in March 2021

The Greater Princeton Branch of AYLUS (GPA) Sports Committee continues chess classes every Monday and Tuesday for beginners along with Chess Tournaments on the first Saturday every month starting in October 2020.

During class, the students looked at endgame positions with pawns. After class, there is always time to play games against each other to have the opportunity to practice the skills we have learned in class in a real game. Having learned a variety of skills, the students are improving their visualization, tactic, and position skills.

The GPA Sports Committee continued with another class for beginners. It occurs every Tuesday from 7-8 pm. During class, we teach basic information needed to play a game of chess such as what the pieces are called, how they move, and to how to set up a chess board. We reviewed how to get out of check and used that knowledge to solve basic mate in 2s, along with a mix of pin and fork puzzles. After class, the students played games against each other via chess.com.

Participants (3/1, 3/2, 3/8, 3/9: 2 hours each): Sarah Yan, Erick Yan.
