During the 3rd week in October 2020, student members of the Greater Princeton Branch of AYLUS (GPA) teamed up and continued teaching kids in the subjects of math.
GPA members Karen Yang, Kevin Song, Kathy Yang (10/18, 1.5 hrs): This week we finished our Pre Algebra content! With that news, we started our pretest for the Algebra book that we will now be learning from, which is the Art of Problem Solving Intro to Algebra. Students were given problems and asked to solve them to the best of their abilities (it was a challenge because it was Algebra!) Next, we reviewed the questions and what made them so different and how to solve them. This was an awesome preview for what was to come. Then, we assigned homework for the next class. We’ll be having class next Sunday!
GPA member Annie Miao (10/18, 2 hrs): This week, Annie had her fifth week of math tutoring and introduced a 5th grader to variables and various operations that could be done to solve for it. She also taught her how to cross multiply and reviewed simplifying fractions and how to find common factors between numbers.
In addition, GPA member Annabelle Huang has been tutoring an 8th grade student from her township for a few months now since mid-June (limitlessmindsedison@gmail.com). Annabelle taught her math and PSAT prep each session (6/19, 1.6 hrs; 6/26, 1.5 hrs; 7/3, 1.25 hrs; 7/10, 1.25 hrs; 7/24, 1.16 hrs; 8/2, 1.25 hrs; 8/7, 1.25 hrs; 8/14, 1.25 hrs; 9/7, 1.17 hrs; 9/27, 1.5 hrs; 10/13, 1.25 hrs; 10/18, 1.17 hrs).
