On October 3, from 1:30-3:30 PM EST, the Greater Princeton Branch of AYLUS (GPA) hosted its third “Beyond The Chess Tournament for AYLUS” to promote youth volunteer community services while defeating the COVID-19 pandemic. Tournaments on chess.com are open to all ages to have fun and test their skills by playing chess against others.
With 30 members joined in the club, many attended the tournament. Before the tournament started, there was an informational zoom held to discuss the rules and how the tournament would play out. During the zoom, the tournament directors, also GPA members, Sarah Yan and Erick Yan introduced the ideas of AYLUS to the participants.
The tournament was a close race between first and second, and the other participants close behind. The 1 hour long arena style tournament allowed for many games to be played, as some players managed to squeeze in 6 games during the 1 hour span! With only 2 minutes left, the chase was close! At the end, there was a tie for first place, between Fluffy_Unicorns and Happypanda20 both winning all their 6 games, losing and drawing none of their games, accumulating 21 points! The tournament was very intense with brilliant moves and clever tactics. Everyone enjoyed playing tough positions and fun games against each other to clench the first place crown.
The next tournament is on Saturday, November 7, from 2 to 3 PM EST. The time control will remain the same (G10+5) and everyone is welcome. All ages can come and compete with their skills and have fun playing games of chess!
Volunteers: Sarah Yan (2 hours), Erick Yan (2 hours)
