East Cobb Branch Holds Summer Camp Session II on the week of 7/13-7/19, 2020

On July 18th, Cynthia Ruan from the East Cobb Branch participated in the Summer Camp Program and taught for one hour.

This program was initially started due to the cancellation of summer camps caused by COVID-19. It’s goal is to provide entertainment and teach different skills to children who may be bored at home or want to learn something new. The volunteer or volunteers may teach 1 on 1 or in groups no more than 5. By teaching these kids, we want to help them have fun and relieve some burden from their parents.

Activities that are offered include tennis, soccer, cooking, art, reading/writing, music theory, piano, dance, Chinese, and Rubik’s Cube.

Cynthia contributed by teaching six kids baking. The kids were taught to make soufflé pancakes. The kids mixed up the batter and cooked it on a pan. The pancakes were steamed with some water to puff up. After the pancakes were made, the kids decorated the pancakes with their favorite fruits and toppings. While making the pancakes, the kids were able to ask questions about the process to make the pancakes.

The kids were super happy with the results. It felt great knowing that the kids had so much fun. The teaching process reminded volunteers of the amazing summer camps they attended as a kid. Volunteers were able to use their skills and talents to teach others.
