After weeks of planning and allowance for a registration period, MAYLUS finally kicked off our first summer project last week with a tutoring program over Zoom! Running from July 13 to August 28, we hope to connect and reach out to younger students in our community through more individualised curriculums and a flexible learning environment while still calling for growth and challenging their skills and abilities.
Offering courses such as algebra, geometry, biology, and English, MAYLUS volunteers Alex Goldberg, Priyanka Deka, Viola Li, Sonia Kang, Lizzie Cheng, Rachael Yuan, Charlene Peng, and Celina Xiong are currently teaching and guiding over 70 elementary and middle school students across the MetroWest area, providing engaging and thought-provoking instruction during quarantine.
Aside from weekly lessons, games, and assignments, volunteers Rachael Yuan and Charlene Peng (teaching Biology) are hosting a supplementary session on evolution and its flaws, featuring a guest speaker and an open panel for discussion. Students ages 10 to 14 are welcome to join!
Thanks to all MAYLUS volunteers! Updates will continue to be posted and total hours tallied once the program has run its course.
