Greater Princeton AYLUS Teamed up to Tutor Kids Math (16th) on June 7, 2020

On June 7, 2020, student members of the Greater Princeton Branch of AYLUS (GPA), Kevin Song and Karen Yang, teamed up and taught 5 kids from West Windsor in the subjects of math.

The 3-hour class offered by GPA members starts with an hour of prep for gathering materials around noon. Then at 3:30-5:30 Karen and Kevin teach Pre-Algebra class. The 5 kids, Kathy, Victor, Claire, Meisu, Claire, are in 5th grade, and being taught Pre-Algebra.

Despite not having class next week because of teacher conflicts, we are back this week. Kids were taught online again, beginning with a review of word problems, algebra, science (periodic table content)  through the game of “Quizizz” a software similar to Kahoot. Then we went over the students’ problems that they did not understand, since this Quizizz was a hard one. By combining math and science, kids could reinforce their word problem knowledge while learning about protons, neutrons and electrons. Students worked together to answer questions and after, we played a Kahoot to wrap up their knowledge on this content. This class, we also continued to teach some material on science as the kids seemed to be interested in this subject.  We’ll be having class next week and more details to come!
