Greater Princeton AYLUS (GPA) “Earth Team”Volunteers worked at the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), an agency of the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) on August 29, 2019, from 8 am to 5 pm (9 hours).
Barbara Phillips, the Public Affairs Specialist of the NJ NRCS, has been the supervisor of the GPA Earth Team Volunteers and showed them the know-hows of the office. She has retired at the end of July, so there are many things needed to be wrapped up. As a surprise and a farewell gift, Earth Team Volunteer Cassie Wang is making a video for Barbara containing some photos of Barbara as well as some videos from her coworkers.
On August 29, 2019, Cassie Tammy Wang went around the office and recorded videos of the coworkers of Barbara Phillips. This video will be gifted to Barbara in hopes that it will bring joy to her and it will be a precious walk down memory lane. Her co-workers talked about their favorite moments with her, their inside jokes, how much they will miss her and more.
Soil Scientist Richard Shaw also asked GPA Earth Team Volunteers to help him with some lab work, such as sifting, weighing, and recording the amounts of soil samples, and helping with a few other things.
The work of GPA Earth Team Volunteers will allow NRCS to stretch available resources and plus additional conservation practices on the ground. Their work is considered important, because it improves NRCS customer service and the environment for all.
