On February 16, 2019, 19 members of AYLUS East Cobb Branch played for two and half hours at Arbor Terrace and The Phoenix at Johnson Ferry Senior Centers.
The two and half hour program consisted of many pieces such as the Chopin Nocturne Op. 9 No. 2, Libertango, and My Favorite Things . The songs were performed in Groups, as Violin Solos, and as Piano Solos. To celebrate the lunar new year, a traditional Chinese dance was performed for the Seniors. In addition, members sung Happy New Year and 茉莉花, a popular song sung during the lunar new year. Many members also wore traditional Chinese clothing that is worn during the new year. Members were very happy to share their culture with other people. The atmosphere of the performance pleasant as many of the elders were always smiling.
Following the performance, we gave origami lanterns and traditional lunar new year crafts for the Seniors. The crafts consisted of scriptures to put on walls consisting of words wishing luck, fortune, and prosperity for the new year. While handing out the gifts, many seniors smiled and wanted to know when we would come back.
