2010119 East Cobb Branch Held Youth Tutoring Program XV

On Saturday January 19, 2019, the East Cobb Branch of AYLUS held its 15th free tutoring program at East Cobb Library and Switzer Library for students’ from K to 8th grade. The tutoring lasted for two hours and was welcome to all students. There were six students in total. The tutors taught a variety of subjects like math, science, reading, and writing.

The students brought in problems like tests, homework, quizzes, and schoolwork to review with the tutors, and afterwards, the tutors made up some practice problems to see if the student truly understood the concept. The tutors use different strategies and styles to teach the students like drawing out pictures.

Also, three members went to Switzer Library to help tutor kids from grades K-8. This is the second week the East Cobb branch of AYLUS went to Switzer library to expand our tutoring program

At first, we had a girl who was in 6th grade. She needed help with her math homework, so we assisted her with it. Maxwell patiently helped the girl with her homework and made sure she did everything correctly. There weren’t any other students, so Raymond and Kevin were directed to help the library in other forms.

Kevin and Raymond were assigned to weed the unpopular books from the shelf. The staff gave us a list of books we were to remove from the shelf. These books weren’t checked out for over 4 years.  The books we had removed were sent to the Book sale the library will be holding in the spring.

Kevin worked on clearing the foreign language books and Raymond worked on clearing the fiction books. The books that weren’t found on the shelfs, we were to write “not” on the book list. If they were found, we were to cross of the title of the book on the list. We weeded about two carts of books.

Every Saturday, the East Cobb Branch will hold sessions of tutoring through East Cobb Youth Tutoring at the East Cobb Library and Switzer Library.

Attendance: David Qu (2 hours), Irene Chiao (2 hours), Jiarong Wang (2 hours), Kevin Shen(2 hours), Maxwell Jiang ( 2 hours), Raymond Jiang ( 2 hours)
