On Saturday July 22, the Roslyn branch partnered with Audubon to collect 140 signatures to protect endangered birds from 9:30-2:00.
As volunteers for Audubon, we performed outreach by approaching beachgoers and asking them to sign a pledge which lists responsibilities to keep out of the nesting areas, to keep your dog away from these nesting areas, and to remember to clean up after yourself. As always, we maintained a positive attitude towards both people who signed and didn’t. We hope to collect enough signatures to appeal to the government for grant money to support this cause while at the same time raising awareness of this subject. Today was an extremely hot day and we made sure to keep hydrated. Through volunteering with Audubon, we learned the importance of protecting these coastal birds and keeping them in our ecosystem while also bettering our social and conversational skills.
