Edmond Branch Volunteers at Libraries 6-26 to 6-30

Julia spent 2 hours and 45 minutes preparing for a children’s Scratch coding program and worked in three hour shifts for four days at two local libraries.

 

At the Southwest OKC Pioneer library, she helped with the Kickstart Kindergarten program teaching incoming kindergarten students about writing their names; demonstrated rhymes and dances to encourage participation of children; passed out supplies; put away tables, chairs, and supplies after event over; encouraged literacy and prevented summer slide in addition to planning a Scratch coding program to teach kids to create their own games; creating a lesson plan outlining steps of creating the game and challenges for kids to try on their own, and encouraging STEM learning and creativity that she will teach in the near future.

 

At the Southern Oaks Metropolitan Library, she helped at children’s art programs; cardboard cupcake decorating and videogame arts and crafts projects; explained art projects to kids; put away tables, chairs and supplies after program over; and encouraged art appreciation and creativity.
