Murrieta AYLUS Helps Local Senior Center #12 (6/11/23)

Reported by Adora Xiao & Hsin Chen (Julie) Lu

On June 11th, 2023, Murrieat AYLUS members helped out their local senior centers: Torrey Pines Living Senior center and Atria Park of Vintage Hills.

At the Torrey Pines Living senior center. They wrapped up the residents’ exercise regimen by tossing a beach ball for everyone to hit back or catch, before faux sparring with pool noodles and stretching out arm joints. Then, they took time to pass out and distribute drinks to all the residents. They then spent time reading the daily chronicle with the residents, before ending the day with some word games.

At Atria Park of Vintage Hills: When the members arrived, the residents were watching a movie in the Rose Cour room. As the movie played, the members chatted with the residents. The seniors were pleasantly surprised when a visitor brought her dog, Cosmos, into the room. Cosmos’ adorable face and cleverness in following verbal commands such as “sit” and “down” won the hearts of everyone in the room. The members then began gradually transferring the seniors to another room for a new activity. After everyone was settled in, the members started handing out coloring pages and colored pencils. As the residents colored, the members joined in on their conversations and helped with a puzzle a couple of them were working on. When their time was up, the members quickly finished helping the seniors add the final touches to their coloring pages and bid them goodbye.
